Day 1
DAY 1: KALAHARI REST, CENTRAL KALAHARI GAME RESERVE

Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Adventurous travellers seeking a truly remote African safari will be thrilled to discover that such a thing still exists. As the second largest game reserve in the world and one of the least visited, nothing can prepare you for the sheer wonder of exploring this vast reserve with its wild, untouched beauty. The landscape is dominated by sand veldt, acacias, and Kalahari appleleaf, interspersed with grasslands, and dotted with occasional sand dunes, pans and fossil river valleys. While the reserve is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, there is one animal that is rather obviously absent, the human being. It is this lack of human traffic, combined with the park’s lack of infrastructure, that makes for a challenging and marvelously authentic African experience. Visitors need to be entirely self-sufficient but those willing to make the effort will be richly rewarded.

Overnight: Kalahari Rest

Kalahari Rest Game Lodge is a privately owned game lodge situated near the town of Kang on the Trans Kalahari Highway. The lodge features a restaurant, bar and swimming pool. The chalets are luxury en suite units with air conditioning and stylish decor. All chalets are equipped with a mini fridge and a small kitchenette. In addition, the lodge also offers convenient camping facilities.

Day 2
DAY 2: MAUN LODGE, MAUN

Maun

Maun is the starting point for most expeditions into the Okavango Delta and as a result, has developed into a bustling metropolis that is considered Botswana’s tourism capital. Area attractions include a renowned river boat that offers ‘booze cruises’ up and down the Thamalakane River, and the forest groves of the Maun Game Reserve.

Overnight: Maun Lodge

Maun Lodge is situated on the banks of the Thamalakane River and on the doorstep to the famous Okavango Delta. Located only 4 km from Maun International Airport and 2.5 km from the village center and is ideally positioned for both business and holiday visitors.

Accommodation consists of 30 double rooms, 2 of which are suitable for the physically challenged, 20 twin and 4 family rooms, all air conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, extensive bouquet of satellite television, tea and coffee facilities, room and laundry services. There's also 10 deluxe riverfront rooms and 2 Presidential suites, all with private verandas, en-suite and fully air- conditioned. For those on a limited budget, there's 12 thatched chalets that are excellent value for money, the chalets are en-suite, fully air conditioned, have tea & coffee facilities and 8 DSTV channels. Eight of the chalets cater for families with two beds and a double sleeper couch. The remaining four have two beds each.

Day 3
DAY 3-DAY 4: VUMBURA PLAINS GAME DRIVES, OKAVANGO DELTA

Okavango Delta

Lying in the middle of the largest expanse of sand on earth the Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most amazing, sensitive and complex environments supporting a spectacle of wilderness and wildlife. Unique as one of the world’s few inland deltas, the placid waters and lush indigenous forests offer a safe haven for innumerable bird and wildlife species. The Okavango Delta offers a number of activities for the visitor; game viewing, birding and fishing are all on offer. One can experience this magical world of islands and waterways from land, air and water.

Highlights include the elusive Sitatunga antelope which has found refuge in this pristine wetland ecosystem, while birds such as the African fish eagle, Pel's fishing owl and many others provide a spectacular display.

Overnight: Vumbura Plains Game Drives

Day 4
DAY 5-DAY 6: SELINDA CAMP, SELINDA RESERVE

Selinda Reserve

The Selinda Reserve is a 320,00-acre private concession in northern Botswana. It sits west (upstream) from Savute Channel and Chobe National Park, and north of the expanding reaches of the greater Okavango Delta. This unique position gives it the advantages of both of these famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity. It is a truly spectacular and varied landscape hosting a wide range of species in diverse habitats. It is particularly well-known for its African wild dog, large elephant herds and the rare roan and sable antelopes.

Overnight: Selinda Camp View iBrochure

Selinda Camp is located in the 320,000 acre Selinda Reserve of northern Botswana along the eastern banks of the Selinda Spillway, near the confluence of the Linyanti, Savute and Kwando Rivers. At the peak of dry season, this concession boasts elephants by the thousands and regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs. The Selinda Reserve is west (upstream) from Savute Channel and Chobe, so it has all the advantages of both of those famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity. It is a truly spectacular and unique landscape. Each of Selinda Camp's eight spacious, sturdy canvas tents is shaded with thatch roofing and raised on wooden decks with a large private verandah for a slice of one’s own private Africa. Each tent has a small seating area and desk. One of the tents is a family unit, consisting of two bedrooms and two bathrooms connected by a wrap-around deck. Selinda’s commanding main lounge and dining area is raised with views of the Spillway. Nearby is the large walk-in wine cellar and art gallery as well as the curio shop. After the day’s events, the pool is a welcome respite, and then a drink around the fire pit rounds out the day.

Day 5
DAY 7-DAY 8: SAVUTE SAFARI LODGE, SAVUTI - CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Savuti - Chobe National Park

In the heart of Botswana’s Chobe National Park lies a dynamic wilderness, a sweeping expanse of savannah brooded over by several rocky outcrops which guard a relic marsh and the dry channel that was once its lifeline. This is Savute, where mysterious wet and dry cycles mould the landscape and dictate the nature of its wild inhabitants. Currently it is dry, and wild dogs hunt in the channel where crocodiles swam only twenty years ago.

The Gubatsa Hills shelter leopard and klipspringer and rock paintings of early man’s wildlife sightings. During the arid winter months game viewing concentrates on Savute’s resident bull elephants, antelope and lion prides, and black-backed jackal, bat-eared foxes, tsessebe, and kudu, abound.

The summer rains bring a feast for lion, hyena and cheetah as thousands of migrating zebra and wildebeest assemble in a chaotic pattern on the marsh. Cape buffalo herds arrive and migrant birds swell Savute’s 300 resident species, thrilling bird-watchers with their spectacular antics.

Overnight: Savute Safari Lodge View iBrochure

Located on the banks of the Savute channel, Savute Safari Lodge is intimate, accommodating only 24 guests in cool thatched timber and glass suites.

The area is renowned for its population of bull elephant and for the unique interaction of the resident predator species. The close proximity of wildlife translates itself into the recently refurbished, modern African décor.
