Solitaire

Situated in the Khomas region of Central Namibia, the town of Solitaire serves as an oasis in the Namib Desert. There is not much to do or see in the small village of Solitaire, but it nevertheless, it is an important stop on the way to the ancient dunes of Sossusvlei as it provides the only petrol station, general store and post office between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay. Solitaire also has a small bar and is renowned for its famous apple pie- said to be the best in Namibia. Home to a luxury desert lodge, a motel and a campsite, visitors can easily find comfortable accommodation in Solitaire. Enjoy a scenic sundowner with views of the spectacular Namib desert, hike and bike through the unspoilt natural scenery and visit the local Cheetah Sanctuary.

Swakopmund

Set along Namibia's spectacularly scenic coast, the seaside town of Swakopmund is known for its wide-open avenues, colonial architecture, and is surrounded by otherworldly desert terrain. Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, Swakopmund is often described as being more German than Germany. Now a seaside resort town, Swakopmund is the capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has plenty to keep visitors happy. The quirky mix of German and Namibian influences, adventure options, laidback atmosphere and cool sea breeze make it very popular Namibian destination. Visitors can look forward to a number of exciting activities including: quad biking, horse riding, paragliding, fishing, sightseeing and fascinating desert tours.

Overnight: Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre

Enclosed by the ever-changing restless movement of the dunes of the Namibian desert on the east and the pounding waves and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean to the west, lies the historic town of Swakopmund, gateway to the Skeleton Coast. The Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre has been designed to compliment the architecture of the historic (1902) station building which today forms part of the hotels’ public areas. The resort offers the perfect balance between charming, old world tradition with the thrill and excitement of modern day entertainment, be it the Casino and Entertainment centre, dune boarding, quad biking, golf at the nearby desert course, the dolphins and the flamingos of Walvis or a romantic banquet in the desert. For the more sedate a spa treatment or relaxing at the pool offer the escape often promised but so rarely achieved.

Sandwich Harbour

Located roughly 50 kilometres from Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour is a natural lagoon framed by sand dunes on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. It is a prime angling and bird-watching site, with countless sea birds coming to feed on the rich fish population, including rare white pelican and vivid flocks of pink flamingos.

Pelican Point Kayaking

Pelican Point Kayaking is a kayak around the tip of the Pelican Point Peninsula where seals and dolphins can be seen. The Walvis Bay wetlands and birds such as flamingoes and pelicans can be seen on the drive to the kayaking site. During the night, the sailors use the Pelican Point lighthouse as a guiding light to make their way back to shore. Pelican Point is also home to many animals including Cape Fur seals, Bottlenose and Heaviside's dolphins, black-backed jackals, as well as the brown hyena. Many times the seals are curious and playful and make their way up to the kayaks as they try to interact with humans.
