Windhoek

Windhoek is Namibia’s capital, home to an international airport and a plethora of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and accommodation options. The city is clean, safe and well-organised, with a colonial legacy that is reflected in its many German eateries and shops, and the widespread use of the German language. Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the Alte Feste (Old Fort), the 1896 Christuskirche (Christ Church), and the more contemporary Supreme Court.

Overnight: Olive Grove Guesthouse

Olive Grove is a small upmarket accommodation establishment situated close to the city centre in a quiet, peaceful area. The Olive Exclusive, the guesthouse takes homely atmosphere to a different level. Recently completely refurbished, each room has been decorated and painted with new colour schemes allowing a different feel, but with the same elegant and simplistic emphasis on décor. The newly renovated, open-plan kitchen allows guests to see how meals are prepared, while they enjoy a drink in the lounge. The menu was also reinvented and is now fully a la carte, quite unique for a guesthouse. Home-style food is rounded off with great presentation, pushing up the level of the guesthouse dining experience. The upper deck has been revamped into a private dining corner, with two Moroccan-style sections, for guests to get comfy on the large pillows and enjoy the ambience and view from the top. The on-site Wellness Room offers a selection of professional services, to assist guests on their journey towards inner and outer well-being. Whilst each of the ten rooms and one suite cater for every need of the most discerning traveller, the emphasis remains one of simplicity and elegance.

Waterberg Region

The Waterberg Region incorporates the Waterberg Plateau National Park and the farming districts from Outjo and Otjiwarongo in the west to Grootfontein and Tsumeb in the west.

Overnight: Frans Indongo Lodge

WELCOME TO FRANS INDONGO LODGE Is your heart yearning for Africa? For the savannah and the scent of grasses and acacias? For silence and wide horizons? And at the same time you want to enjoy all modern comforts? Then Frans Indongo Lodge warmly welcomes you. You can truly relax with us. Let us pamper you – after all, you are on holiday. Relax on the sundeck at the swimming pool and watch a succession of Sable Antelope, Black Springbok and Nyala quench their thirst at the nearby water hole. Relish the special African atmosphere: the lodge and the interior decoration feature stylish traditional elements from the Ovambo culture in northern Namibia – the birthplace of Frans Indongo. You can’t afford to miss this! Watch cheetahs sprinting and learn more about the fastest terrestrial animal on the planet at the nearby Cheetah Conservation Fund or explore Waterberg Plateau Park, where water is plentiful. While staying with us you will also experience purest nature, of course. The 170 km² farm boasts an extraordinary abundance of game, including White and Black Rhino, Black Wildebeest and Hartebeest. We take you game-viewing on sundowner drives. For active holidaymakers we have laid out trails which meander through the bush savannah and lead onto a hill with a magnificent look-out point. We are right on your way. Frans Indongo Lodge is located north-east of Otjiwarongo and north-west of Waterberg Mountain. Thus it is ideally suited as a stop-over on your way from Windhoek to Etosha, the far north, to Bushmanland or the Caprivi. We are close to the tar road but nevertheless in the midst of the African bush savannah. [map] One little hint: take your time. Our guests keep complaining that they would have liked to stay longer...

Etosha National Park

The Etosha National Park is Namibia's premiere game viewing experience, situated in the northwest of Namibia and is an area well known for its wildlife. Vegetation ranges from dense bush to open plains attracting a diversity of wildlife. In the heart of the Park is The Etosha Pan - a shallow depression that covers an area of 5000sq kilometres. Dry and shimmering for most of the year, the pans fill up with water after good rains to a depth which is seldom deeper than 1m. In the dry season wildlife is attracted to perennial springs and waterholes that makes for excellent game viewing. Within the park are three large public rest camps catering for the more budget orientated traveller. There are several smaller establishments on the outskirts of the park on private land offering a more intimate and comprehensive experience. All of these establishments offer excellent value for money.

Overnight: Mushara Lodge

Located only 8kms from the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park, Mushara Lodge is ideally situated for travelers visiting the park. Our Lodge consists of ten spacious chalets, one family unit and two single rooms. The name Mushara derives from the Purple Pod Terminalia tree, which grows in abundance in the lodge grounds and the surrounding area. The thatched public area consists of a small library with a selection of good books, a bar with an extensive wine cellar, airy lounge with welcoming fireplace for winter evenings, a dining area and well stocked curio shop.

Outjo

Outjo’s central position makes it an excellent stopover en route to Etosha National Park, the Skeleton Coast or Damaraland, but that’s not the only reason to visit this small town. It’s also a charming getaway boasting attractive forest and savannah surrounds, hospitable locals and several historical sites. Roughly an hour’s drive to the west you will find the Ugab Rock Finger, a 35-metre high stone monolith, while slightly further on is a 250-million year old petrified forest.

Overnight: Vreugde Guest Farm

Vreugde Guest Farm is a small, friendly family business, offering accommodation that is comfortable, rustic and elegant. Situated in the heart of Namibia, just 30 minutes drive from the Etosha National Park's Anderson Gate, "Vreugde" is a perfect stop-over where you can sit back and relax, and recapture the beauty that you have experienced on your travels through the vast and beautiful country. Vreugde Guest Farm offers comfortable and rustic accommodation in 1 double room, 5 twin rooms and 1 family room, all en-suite with a shower. The large garden offers guests plenty of places to sit in the sun or in the shade, and an inviting swimming pool allows guests to cool off after a long day driving. Activities available include guided Etosha tours on an open jeep, as well as farm-drives and walks around the farm.

Damaraland

Huge, untamed and ruggedly beautiful Damaraland is an exceptionally scenic landscape of open plains and spectacular rock formations. The major attractions are Spitzkoppe, the Brandberg, Twyfelfontein, Vingerklip and the Petrified Forest.

Overnight: Camp Kipwe

Camp Kipwe is an intimate and remote bush lodge located in Namibia's arid yet starkly beautiful Twyfelfontein region, home to many ancient Bushman etchings. The 9 specially-designed rooms are unique and private, with an outdoor bathroom, thatched roofs and spectacular views over the surrounding area. A luxury thatched suite with a lounge equipped with air-conditioning, a satellite television, a double room with en-suite bathroom, laundry service and a mini-bar. Special offers available for longer stays! Camp Kipwe offers guided nature walks around the Twyfelfontein Conservancy, as well as trips to see the Bushman etchings, the mysterious Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain. For a very special experience, an Elephant Nature Drive is a must-do; explore the terrain in search of these elusive desert-dwelling elephants who have adapted to the dry and sandy conditions of northern Namibia.

Swakopmund

Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, Swakopmund is often described as being more German than Germany. Now a seaside resort, Swakopmund is the capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has plenty to keep visitors happy. The quirky mix of German and Namibian influences, colonial-era buildings and the cool sea breeze make it very popular.
