Windhoek is Namibia’s capital, home to an international airport and a plethora of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and accommodation options. The city is clean, safe and well-organised, with a colonial legacy that is reflected in its many German eateries and shops, and the widespread use of the German language. Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the Alte Feste (Old Fort), the 1896 Christuskirche (Christ Church), and the more contemporary Supreme Court.
Situated in the suburb of Klein Windhoek, Casa Piccolo is a small, tastefully furnished guest house, only a short walk from the nearest facilities or 5min drive from the Windhoek city centre. The modern shopping malls, restaurants, pubs and clubs, and medical and banking facilities, make this an ideal place to stay at either the beginning or end of a visit to Namibia. The quiet and peaceful garden is an excellent spot to relax and unwind after a hectic day in the city, or a long, dusty day behind the wheel. A dip in the swimming pool on a hot, summer's afternoon, is also a favourite alternative. Accommodation in this Pension is in 9 large, tastefully furnished single or double rooms, each with an en-suite shower and toilet, air conditioning, mini-bar, television (3 channels) and secure parking. A triple room, only for parents with children under 15, or 3 children, not older than 15 years of age, can be arranged. A healthy and scrumptious breakfast is served between 07h00 and 10h00 by their friendly and efficient staff. There is also a laundry service, and a shuttle to Windhoek International Airport, can also be organized.
The Kalahari is an exceptionally beautiful living desert a large semi-arid sandy savannah draped over a gently rolling inland sea of sand covering most of Botswana and large parts of Namibia and South Africa. It is also the last bastion of the San people with the modern world having enveloped all the other areas they once roamed. Here in Namibia it is typically red sands covered in thin, wispy, mostly golden grass and dotted with acacia trees and wide ranging wildlife including gemsbok, impala, jackals and cheetah.
KALAHARI RED DUNES LODGE, a lodge designed with a lot of passion for details, is located in the impressive Kalahari landscape characterized by red sand dunes and camel thorn trees. Its “Luxury of Solitude”, offers ample space and privacy. The main house, consisting of reception, lobby, restaurant and bar, pool and shaded deck is situated in a dry lake (vlei). A 120 meter long boardwalk connects the main building with the chalets which are nestled around the ‘vlei', where often animals can be observed. Each chalet has a thatched roofed tented and a stoned section as well as a private terrace. During the Nature/ Game Drives and nature walks guests can experience the breathtaking beauty of the Kalahari with it’s up to 30 m high red dunes and a huge variety of game. While staying with us you will also experience purest nature, of course. The 170 km² farm boasts an extraordinary abundance of game, including White and Black Rhino, Black Wildebeest and Hartebeest. We take you game-viewing on sundowner drives. For active holidaymakers we have laid out trails which meander through the bush savannah and lead onto a hill with a magnificent look-out point. Experience the vastness of the African Savannah on the 2-day TRANS KALAHARI WALK. This guided hike leads through desert-like sceneries and their habitat of giraffes, zebras and antelopes and offers one overnight stay in a luxury tented camp in the dunes.
The intermittent Fish River has created Africa’s largest and the world’s second largest canyon. Hot, dry and stony the 160 km long, at times 27 km wide and 550m deep canyon is awe inspiring. At the southern end are the renowned hot springs of Ai-Ais. Within the park are three large public rest camps catering for the more budget orientated traveller. There are several smaller establishments on the outskirts of the park on private land offering a more intimate and comprehensive experience. All of these establishments offer excellent value for money.
Fish River Lodge in southern Namibia is the only lodge perched directly on the rim of the Fish River Canyon offering guests breathtaking views of the canyon from sunrise to sunset. Experience first hand the geological forces that unfolded 300 million years ago, when the Fish River began to etch its way through hard quartzite forming a Canyon 90 kilometres long, 549 metres deep and 28 kilometres wide in some places, making it the world's second largest Canyon. The 45 000 hectare Canyon Nature Park is a natural sanctuary for Karoo succulent flora and endemic wildlife. Incredible hiking trails meander down into the heart of the canyon affording guests spectacular scenery combined with 75 km river frontage made up of permanent water holes and rock pools that attract Hartmans Zebra, Kudu, Oryx, Springbok and many other smaller wildlife species and endemic birdlife.
This seaside town is something of an anomaly – a piece of 19th century Bavaria bordering the pinkish sand dunes of the Namib Desert. Lutheran churches, German bakeries and colonial buildings are dotted about the settlement, while its windswept beaches are home to flamingos, ostriches, seals and penguins. The nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop is one of the most fascinating area attractions, located approximately 10 kilometres from Luderitz central.
Alte Loge Historisches Gästehaus is housed in an old mansion from the colonial period that has been completely renovated. The guest house offers individually decorated guest rooms in Luderitz, Namibia. High speed WI-FI internet access is available throughout the property.
Sossusvlei is where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red sand dunes to make this one of the natural wonders of Africa and a photographers heaven. Aside from the attractions at Sossusvlei - Dune 45, Hiddenvlei, Big Daddy and Deadvlei - other attractions in the area include the Sesriem Canyon and Namib-Naukluft National Park, where the mountains of the Namib meet its plains.
We invite you to experience the beauty and tranquility of Hoodia Desert Lodge, surrounded by majestic mountains on the banks of the Tsauchab River. Only a 20 minute drive will bring you to the Sesriem Gate, entrance of the world famous red sand-dunes of Sossusvlei. You will meet enthusiastic people, keen to share your adventures and the friendliness and personal attention of our staff will make your stay memorable. We love to share our knowledge about the region with its secrets and our guided tours are an ideal entrance to the magical world of the desert.
